What led me to this work: My first career was a Cosmetologist. I grew up with one of a few passions that included “doing hair” I get my license after completing Technical Schooling in my last two years of high school. Fast forward working as a successful Licensed Stylist for five years I had an opportunity to use my skills in a hair product manufacturing company in Research and Development, it was there after the next five years that I sought to get a degree to advance as I did not see myself as a “Stylist” for the rest of my career. My plan was to get a degree and become an HR Professional. I did that too all while working full time and being full time Mom. As part of my plan, I did continue my career development by moving taking an opportunity within the manufacturing division of the company as a lateral move from Product Development Supervisor to and HR Assistant with a Bachelors’ Degree which met my career goal.
My passion now was to develop the career of employees that worked hard to arrive at the level of achievement to be the prime selection for an employer to further launch their career and live out their passions. Seeing that employers may or may not have a road map that follows your plans, you must, make it your sole responsibility. In helping others, you must, apply your oxygen mask first, in order to be well equipped to assist and ensure that you, get the development within your career that you desire at the same time. It is so easy to care for others and forget to do for ourselves. After witnessing so many professionals leave a company because they did not have the support or worse, dreams are no longer pursued due to factors that caused them to get off track. To that I say, always bet on you, invest in yourself and keep nurturing your dreams!
Why is this important to me: I was an individual that had to make the changes I wanted to see and it was often met with delays or such an overwhelming need to support staff, that when it was my turn it did not occur and worse was I did not keep the practice of continuing the education because the employer did not have the budget and the resources I needed for my development. I was off track. I don’t want another person face self-inflicted delay another day and ending up off track of their goals.
My professional credentials: Master of Business degree with Human Resources minor, certification in Human Resources by HRCI (PHR) and with Society of Human Resources Management - SHRM -CP Toastmasters Member, CC, CL, co-author.
